Carlos Izquierdoz reaches 100 league games with Santos Laguna

04 de Abril del 2017 7:59 pm.

With a 1-0 victory over Queretaro at TSM Sunday night, captain Carlos Izquierdoz celebrated his 100th Liga MX game with los Guerreros

The central defender arrived to Liga MX in the 2014 Apertura, where he immediately became a leader within the team and earned his role of captain.

He was a key figure in helping los Guerreros win their first Copa MX title that same tournament, and only months later, the 2015 Clausura Liga MX title, a fifth championship for Santos.

In July of 2015, "Cali" helped Santos lift the "Campeon de Campeones" trophy in a defeat over Club America in Dallas Texas. To conclude the 2016 Apertura, he was named to the Liga MX Best XI, where he lead all central defenders in Liga MX with six goals, four of which he scored via header, also a league-best. He came out number one in central defenders with most balls won in the rival's area with 31, most one-on-one duels won with 34, and boasted a league-high 145 balls won in Santos' area to close the tournament.

"I'm happy," he confessed after Santos' 1-0 win over Queretaro Sunday night, a defeat which put los Guerreros back in the playoff zone. "It's a very good number for almost three years that I've been here. I have played a lot and lived through a lot of important moments in the Club, to reach a hundred games with this shirt is something amazing."

Liga MX is an "impressive" league, he says. "There's nothing to envy about other leagues because I think it has everything, it is a super competitive league, and what I have lived here represents a lot in my career."

With regard to his time at Santos:

"Santos for me represents tranquility, trust, a place where values ?are respected, I believe they are things that I have tried to follow during my life, and coming to this institution - which has been super supportiven all the details - is the best thing that could have happened to me."

For the fans of Santos, "Cali" vows to keep working.

"Our goals above all things are to keep winning," he said. "I believe in the objective we have and because of what this institution gives us, (the objective) is to give the maximum and continue getting wins, it's what the fans deserve."
