Club Santos youth product and Mexico U20 international Uriel Antuna will join FC Groningen in Holland's Dutch Eredivisie, becoming the second Santos player in two months to make the move from Torreón to Europe.
In July, Santos Laguna sold Antuna to City Football Group, only weeks after announcing a one year deal for Antuna's U20 teammate and Santos Laguna forward Joao Maleck to Porto FC.
City Football Group is a holding company which oversees the creation and administration of linked football clubs and other football operations. City Football Group owns and operates Manchester City FC of the English Premier League and New York City FC of MLS, among other clubs in Australia, Japan, and Uruguay.
Antuna helped the U20 team win the 2015 Apertura title, scoring a crucial goal in the final against Xolos in Tijuana. He spent the better part of 2016 with the U20 Mexico national team, becoming a key figure in CONCACAF U20 qualifiers and the World Cup in South Korea. He made his debut with the first team at Santos on March 5, 2017 against Pumas.
"I am very grateful to Club Santos and proud to be one of the first Mexicans of the Laguna region to play European football," he told Sports Center in an interview Tuesday afternoon.
The club thanks Uriel for his tireless commitment and true Guerrero spirit while he was with the club and wishes him the best in this new phase of his career.
