Defender Jesus Angulo played his first 30 minutes in the Mexican first division during Santos Laguna’s week nine game against Cruz Azul Saturday night, entering as a 60th minute substitute for Ventura Alvarado.
His maximum circuit debut comes one month after his Copa MX debut at Estadio Corona against FC Juarez on August 15, 2017.
The 19 year old Culiacan, Sinaloa – native began his formative process with Santos Laguna’s youth teams in 2013 with the U-15 team. He continued his process throughout the U-17 and U-20 level, captaining the U-20 team to a title in the 2015 Apertura.
Angulo is the fifth homegrown player to make his debut in the first division under head coach Jose Manuel de la Torre, who is also responsible for debuting goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo, defenders Jorge Sanchez and Gerardo Arteaga, and midfielder Uriel Antuna – a Mexico U-20 international recently sold by Santos Laguna to City Football Group.
It should also be noted that attacking midfielder Jesus Alberto Ocejo – another product of Santos’ Fuerzas Basicas – made his Copa MX debut in Los Guerreros’ 3-0 win over FC Juarez on Wednesday night.
