Guerreros crowned champions with Mexico U18 in China

  • Mexico’s Under 18 national team defeated China 3-1 with a goal by Santos U20 forward Adrian Lozano in the 3rd Chang An Ford Cup International Youth Football Tournament 2017.
  • Lozano scores twice throughout competition where Mexico U18 remained undefeated in three games.

Torreón, Coahuila, September 24, 2017-  For the sixth time in under two years, Santos Laguna has had its youth players finish as champions in international competitions with Mexico’s youth national teams.

Adrian Lozano and Diego Barazza lifted the 3rd Chang An Ford Cup Youth Football Tournament trophy Sunday morning in China, having gone undefeated in three games by defeating Tajikistan 5-0 in the first game, Oman 3-1 in the second game, and the host nation 3-1 in the final.

Lozano scored his first goal in the competition in Mexico’s 5-1 defeat of Tajikistan and in the final against China.

The victory will mark the sixth time since 2016 in which Santos Laguna has had its youth players win championships in international competition with Mexico’s youth national teams.

In 2016 with Mexico U20, Ronaldo Cisneros, Uriel Antuna, Kevin Lara, and Eduardo Aguirre were champions in the Four Nations Tournament in China and Copa Bahrain, with Aguirre and Cisneros picking up Leading Goal Scorer and MVP accolades, respectively.

Goalkeeper Joel Garcia was crowned champion with Mexico U-21 in late 2016 in the CFU U22 Football Tournament in China.  

In 2017’s U17 World Cup qualifiers, Alan Maeda was a part of the championship –winning Mexico team which defeated the USA in penalties in the final.

Ronaldo Zinedin and Sebastien Tellez were champions in the recent CONCACAF U15 interntational tournament in Florida, defeating the United States 2-0 in the final with a goal by Zinedin. The team went undefeated with stellar performances by both players, winning all five games with 15 goals in favor and allowing zero.
