Santos Laguna Premier effectively began their participation in the Second Division after defeating Pacific FC 4-2 on Saturday to open the 2018 Clausura. Julian Martinez nabbed the first goal of the year for the club's Fuerzas Basicas.
The Monterrey-native recently won the U20 title with head coach Ruben Duarte's team, and was an important part of that group in the attack. Now, he's integrated with the second division team and looks forward to helping the group have the same level of success.
What were the team's strongest points in the victory against Pacific FC?
"The strengths of this group are its intensity, playing as a team. There is support and communication among all the players, which is the most important thing."
How are you feeling personally with your contributions?
"2017 started well and I closed it winning the championship with the U20. I am happy because I scored the first goal of the team in this year 2018. We've started off on the right foot. I feel strong, confident in myself, and in the group we have formed."
Have you improved as a footballer since you arrived to Santos Laguna?
"I have had an evolution as a player and feel important since I arrived from Monterrey, and I am very grateful to this institution."
What can we expect from the next match against Dorados of Chihuahua?
"This Chihuahua team is a strong opponent and they play on a very complicated field, but we will do what we know how to do and go for four points away.
